Eurynome was the name of two noted
women: the daughter of
Oceanus and
Tethys who bore the
Graces to
Zeus, and the daughter of
Nisus, king of Megara, who married
Glaucus and bore Bellerophon to
Poseidon. The name means either 'wide wandering' or 'wide rule', from eurys, 'wide' and nomos, 'district', 'range' or nomao, 'to direct', 'control'. Both senses are ones of
good omen.
