Enarete was the wife of Aeolus, to whom she bore six sons and six daughters (who to their parents' horror committed incest with one
another). Perhaps Enarete's name is intended to offset all this wantonness, for it means 'virtuous' - literally 'in virtue', from en, 'in' and arete, 'virtue' (compare Arete).
