Eurylochus was the
leader of the 'recce party' that explored Circe's island when
Odysseus and his crew landed there, and generally he was
something of an aggressive character. Perhaps this is reflected in his name, which means 'wide ambush', from eurys, 'wide' and lochos, 'ambush'.
