Irus was the name of two characters of note. One was the beggar in
Odysseus' palace in Ithaca; the other was the son of Actor who became the father of the Argonauts Eurytion and Eurydamas. The name seems to be a masculine form of Iris, without any specific allusion to a rainbow or a messenger.
