Hippodamus was the son of Oenomaüs and
Sterope. His name, like that of Hippodamia, means 'horse tamer', here in a propitious sense. Hippodamus' family had several 'horsy' connections: his brother was called Leucippus, his sister was Hippodamia, and his father was known to be fond of horses.
