Iphimedon could also have his name interpreted thus (as Iphimedia) but lacking further evidence it would be
better to settle for a meaning that is simply propitious, 'mighty ruler'. He was the son of Eurystheus, and he and his brothers all have rather grand names, his brothers being Alexander, Eurybius, Mentor and
Perimedes. In spite of their apparent power, the fine names did not save the five brothers from being killed in battle by the Athenians.
