Iphinoë was the daughter of
Proëtus and
Stheneboea. Like her sister Iphianassa (whose name her own closely resembles) she was cured of her madness by
Melampus. Her name means 'great mind', 'mighty intelligence', from iphi, 'mightily' and noos, 'mind'.
