Leucothea was a
sea goddess, the daughter of Orchamos, into whom Ino was transformed. Her name means either 'white
goddess', an obviously propitious name, or 'runner on the white', from leucos, 'white' and theo, 'to run', in which case her name stands for the white waves of the sea (our '
white horses' - which the Greeks would have thought a highly favourable name!).
