Orcus

Orcus was a Roman name for Pluto or Hades. Marcus Verrius Flaccus, a first-century AD Roman scholar, maintained that Orcus' original name had been Uragus or even Urgus, and was thus derived from urgeo, 'to press', 'press forward', but this is hardly certain. Perhaps the name is somehow linked with 'ogre' (as Eric Partridge suggests in Origins) or the sea monster called an 'ore'.
