Maro or Maron was the son of Euanthes, and he was a priest of
Apollo at Ismarus in Thrace. He gave
Odysseus a large store of strong wine, which Odysseus later used to make
Polyphemus drunk. According to Robert Graves, maris means a 'liquid measure of three pints', and this could therefore be the origin of the name.
