Meriones

Meriones was the son of king Idomeneus' brother Molus. He was famous as the next best archer after Teucer, and won the archery contest at Patrocles' funeral games. Perhaps his name refers to his skill as a bowman, and thus derives from merizo, 'to divide', either for his 'dividing' of the target or for winning a share of the total prize.
