Neaera

Neaera was a nymph, the consort of Helios. Another Neaera was the daughter of Pereus, who became the wife of Aleüs and mother of Auge and Cepheus. Her name seems to mean simply 'young', 'youthful', perhaps in the sense 'the younger', from nearos, 'young', 'recent'.

There were others of the name, and they cannot all have been 'the younger' in a family. Perhaps the name is merely a complimentary one, almost an affectionate one, such as 'Young 'Un', 'Kid'.
