Notus was the god of the south wind (or more precisely the south-west), and was said to be the brother of Boreas (the north wind) and
Zephyrus (the west wind). His name may perhaps derive from nao, 'to flow', so that he is the 'wet' wind. (Greek winds approximate to
British ones in character.)
