Nyctimene

Nyctimene was the daughter of Epopeus, king of Lesbos, and when she was raped by her father took refuge in a forest, where Athena, pitying her, turned her into an owl. Her name thus means 'night strength', from nyx, nyctos, 'night' and menos, 'might', 'strength'. The owl is a bird whose strength is the night.
