Hippolochus

Hippolochus was a son of Bellerophon, and the father of Glaucus. His name on the face of it seems to mean 'horse ambush', from hippos, 'horse' and lochos, 'ambush'. This is not very satisfactory, however, and it would make more sense to take the other meaning of lochos, 'child birth'.

He would then be 'one born from a mare'. There seems to be nothing 'mareish' about his mother, though, who is stated to be either Philinoë or Anticlea. Probably his name is simply one of good omen.
