Hippomedon was one of the
Seven Against Thebes. He was of doubtful parentage, but became the father of
Polydorus. Like others of the name, he was a 'lord of horses', from hippos, 'horse' and medon (of which
Medusa is the feminine), 'ruler'. The name is a favourable 'noble' one.
