Phineïs was the girl who loved Enalus. She was thrown into the sea to appease Amphitrite, but was rescued by a dolphin, as Enalus was.
Her name seems to be that of a kind of sea-bird, perhaps a type of vulture, the Greek for which is phene. Perhaps in the original story Enalus had been rescued by a dolphin and Phineïs by a sea-eagle or other big bird.
