Pyrrha was a daughter of Epimetheus and Pandora who married her cousin Deucalion. Her name seems to be a descriptive one, probably referring to the colour of her hair, so that she was a 'redhead', from pyrrhos, 'flame-coloured', 'red', 'tawny'. The same name was given to Achilles for his red hair by the daughters of Lycomedes when he was brought up as a girl in Lycomedes' house.
