Teuthras was a king of Teuthrania (to which he gave his name), in Mysia. He bought Auge as a slavegirl and either adopted her or married her, making Telephus, her son by Heracles, his heir. His name seems to derive from teuthris, 'cuttle-fish', but in what precise sense is not clear.
