Vertumnus (or Vortumnus) was a Roman god of fertility, especially as evidenced in the changing seasons. According to Ovid, he won the love of the fruit goddess Pomona. His name derives from verto, 'to turn', referring to the seasons, but this in turn is probably a translation of a Tuscan name.
