Theoclymenus was an Argive seer or prophet descended from Melampus (whose name see). Another of the name was a king of Egypt, the son of Proteus. For both, the name is a propitious one, meaning 'famous as a god', from theos, 'god' and cleos, 'fame' (or cleinos, 'famous').
