Zagreus is a somewhat obscure Cretan god identified with
Dionysus. Although his name is almost certainly not Greek, it has been approximated to zao, 'to live' and has been interpreted as 'mighty hunter', from za-, an intensive like art- (see Ariadne and Arion), and agreo, 'to hunt'.
