Portheus

Portheus (or Porthaon) was a king of Calydon, the son of Agenor and Epicaste. By Euryte he was the father of Oeneus, among others. His name is a 'powerful' one, meaning 'destroyer', 'sacker', from portheo, 'to destroy' (related to pertho, 'to sack', 'destroy'). Compare the names of Perseus and Poliporthis.
