Tauropolus, after Tantalus and Tartarus, is a relatively straight-forward name to explain. It is a 'fighting' name, i.e. propitiously belligerent, meaning 'bull slayer', from tauros, 'bull' and apollymi, 'to slay' (see Apollo). Tauropolus was one of the 'winy' sons of
Dionysus and Ariadne.
