Telephassa was the wife of the Phoenician king Agenor, to whom she bore five sons (including Cadmus and Phoenix) and one daughter, Europa. Her name is an agreeable one for a
queen, meaning 'far shiner', from tele, 'far' and phao, 'to shine', 'beam'.
