Thasus gave his name to Thasus, the large island in the north Aegean Sea. He was the son of Agenor, or Gilix or Poseidon. Perhaps his name is based on thasso, 'to sit', 'sit idle', though we have no evidence that he was unusually dilatory or indolent.
